ATL provides the students with a perfect learning environment that gives them a chance to experiment with the tools and types of equipment to grasp the concept of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education system which builds up cognitive thinking and encourages students to apply STEM learning concepts to decode real-life problems using real-life scenarios. The students will get a chance to engage with the “do it yourself” activities that will help to build a habit of learning by experimenting. In order to meet the technological advancement in education, it is vital for all the schools to set up a complete Atal tinkering lab at their premises. ATL targets the students of Class VI to XII and helps to nurture, investigative, problem-solving and scientific skills and bring out the true potential of students. The schools which are equipped with ATL are not only limited to teaching students the school curriculum but also make them aware of the latest technology trends. The Atal Tinkering Lab powered by Smfo Aeronautics consists of 180+ tools such as Do-it-yourself kits, Robotics, 3D Printer mechanical & electrical equipment and consumables in accordance with the guidelines of NITI Aayog. We provides a set of four packages for schools that are created as per the guidelines of NITI aayog. What are the benefits of the Atal Tinker Lab? The goal of setting up ATLs in school premises provides a wonderful opportunity for kids to learn innovative things by using the practical approach rather than learning from only the textbook as a reference point.

• The students will learn under the expert guidance of mentors who will help to clear doubts of the students and provide them with assistance.

How does an ATL lab work? NITI Aayog grants some funds to the schools in order to help the school build proper infrastructure and to buy the necessary tools and equipment. Using these funds, the schools can buy the suggested equipment by the NITI Aayog. Schools will get a chance to invite students to make creative & innovative projects for various types of competition. How much financial support is provided by AIM for ATL set up? The NITI Aayog will provide financial support for ATL establishment in the form of Grant-in-aid of Rs 20 Lakhs. During the first year, a one time establishment cost of up to Rs. 10 Lakh will be provided for each Atal Tinkering Lab for the purpose of buying instruments, DIY kits, 3D printer, prototyping equipment, electronic tools, etc. Over a maximum period of 5 years, an amount of Rs 10 Lakh will be provided for each Atal tinker lab for the operations of atal tinkering lab projects, equipment maintenance, consumables purchase, arranging science lectures series, innovative events and carry out other types of scientific activities, competitions and payment of honorariums to the mentors and staff members involved. What are the basic features of the AIM (Atal Innovation Mission)? The Atal tinkering lab which comes under the AIM (Atal Innovation Mission) proposes to provide the establishment support for creating a network of ATLs in India.

1. A minimum of 25% of the Atal Tinker lab is reserved to be set up in schools that are managed by the government (Central or State).

2. The schools (Grade VI-X) which are managed by Government, local body or any private society/trust are eligible to set up ATLs in their school premises.

Where can the schools apply for an Atal Tinkering lab  grant? The school that wishes to establish Atal Tinker lab must visit the site http://www.niti.gov.in and must submit their online application directly to the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog. NITI Aayog invites applications from the eligible schools for the establishment of ATL. In response to this invitation, schools can apply online.

What is the Selection Criteria For setting up Atal Tinkering Lab in schools? The Schools must meet the following criteria to apply for the Atal Tinker Lab:

• The schools which are applying for ATLs must have to allocate at least 1500 sq. ft of the built-up space. There is an exception for the schools which are situated in the Hilly and island states as they have to provide at least 1000 sq. ft of space.

• The school must be equipped with a computer lab &  internet with a good wi-fi facility with a steady electrical connection. Apart from all this, there must be a science lab, library, playground for recreation activities and dedicated and experienced teachers who have excellent knowledge in Maths and Science domain respectively.

• The regular attendance of 75% & above of the enrolled students and staff members over the past 3 years.

• The performance of the school  students must be in the following order:

– Percentage of students scoring (60-69.99% in Class 10th & 12th Board exams in the previous 3 years) – Percentage of students scoring (70-79.99% marks in Class  10th & 12th Board exams respectively in the previous 3 years.) – Percentage of students scoring 80% marks and above in Class 10th & 12th Board exams in the previous 3 years.)

• It also depends upon the participation level of the school in extracurricular science activities like Science Innovation events etc.

• The Applicant schools will have to appoint an adequate number of staff members who will be given a daily task to manage the day-to-day activities of the laboratory.

During the working hours of the Atal Tinkering Lab, it is the responsibility of the faculty member to ensure the safety of the kids. What Are The Next Steps After Obtaining The Grant for ATL establishment?  After receiving the grant the school can select a vendor to purchase suggested tools & equipment. Once it is done with purchasing it is now time to train and prepare the school teachers for Atal tinkering lab. In the initial days, the school will give equal opportunities to all the students who are visiting the lab and instruct them to perform activities using the available tools. After this phase, the school will examine the interested candidates for daily learning sessions.
